Most SMB’s still don’t have websites

According to Google, in 2011 58% of small business didn’t have a website. In 2014, it’s more like 55%.

Astounding statistic if true, especially considering that an SMB can have a free website up and running in 15 minutes using services like Wix and Weebly.

The most common response we’ve heard from SMB owner’s about not having a website is “I don’t need one. I get customers from word of mouth.” Well if you have a very strong word of mouth marketing program that encourages and incentivizes your customers to mention your business all the time then you probably don’t need a website or for that matter any other form of marketing.

Today, search, social media and local services like Yelp have largely replaced word of mouth. Increasingly, the first action that people take in looking for a local service is to search on their smartphones, not ask someone. If you don’t have a website then you risk losing business to your competitors who do have websites. Not having a website in 2015 is no longer an excuse.
